More than a creative example of "indie rock", Skeletons manage to create a remarkable work here. The feeling of solitude, of self-criticism, it's all very evident.
A personal point of view seen from outside, but yet felt.
It's just fantastic.
The newest album from the Skeletons™ b(r)and will be released April 1, the year 2016.
Skeletons, the fluctuating ensemble of musicians around composer, songwriter, filmmaker Matthew Mehlan; present their ninth studio album to be released in North America on Shinkoyo, and in Europe via Altin Village and Mine.
Recorded by Mehlan and long-time Skeletons collaborator Jason McMahon, in a fashion reminiscent of the classic '70s epics the band has always aspired to - extended uninterrupted recording time, studio as instrument and compositional tool, excess and experimentation. The result may be, in a sense, post rock – but that designation limits as much as it describes. It's jazz, it's pop, it's chamber music; grandiose, challenging, at every moment deeply embedded in the particular, inimitable space these musicians create.
"Am I Home?" features a slew of major players in New York's experimental scenes: Greg Fox (Liturgy, Zs, Guardian Alien), Mike Pride, Justin Frye (PC Worship), Matt Nelson, Mike Gallope (Janka Nabay, Starring), Sam Kulik, Sam Sowyrda (Cloud Becomes Your Hand), Nathaniel Morgan, and Caley Monahan-Ward (Extra Life, Voice Coils), among others.
This gathering of musical minds exudes an extraordinary joy of playing music - yet with all its displayed proficiency, "Am I Home?" is a deeply human, personal, affair.

SHINKOYO is the ectoplasm connecting a group of composers, visual artists, improvisers, instrument builders, thinkers, scholars and conceptual artists exploring a new synthesis of sound and vision.
This record is such a delight!
Textured-yet-abrasive; the harmonics on "Pencilneck" sound* the way existence feels* through sufficiently misanthropic (or anxious) eyes.
"The Bus" is loaded with tense & colourful tunes for all your night walk needs! shoukasetasheep
C. Diab describes “Exit Rumination” as “a sonic exorcism,” and its dark, swelling songs are equal parts catharsis and tension. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 26, 2018
